Why are smalls the biggest in Switzerland?

class=”sc-3778e872-0 cKDKQr”>

The small ones are the biggest: In addition to the classic SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles), more and more manufacturers are opting for a combination of SUVs and small cars. High oil prices, lack of space and increasing environmental awareness fueled this development. Because: lower weight also means lower consumption.

There is also a trend that has been observed for several years: while a car used to be considered a status symbol, more pragmatic reasons play a role today. Above all, a vehicle should facilitate daily life and have the appropriate skills and tools, as shown in the overview below.

For many drivers, smaller SUVs combine the best of both worlds. Sales statistics also confirm this development. “A third of last year’s top 15 models were compact SUVs,” says Auto Switzerland media spokesperson Christoph Wolnik. In general, it can be said that the number of models presented in this format has increased in recent years. “The same goes for registration numbers.”

Lots of space inside

Compact SUVs score Mr and Mrs Swiss’s with a number of advantages. First of all, they have a lot of room inside: The cars offer plenty of leg and head room for all passengers, enough room for the whole family, and ample trunk in which to stow hobby and sporting goods or even a dog box.

2

Useful length outside

However, compact SUVs are not bulky in terms of their size. It is usually based on compact class models and is also not very tall: mostly between 4.1 and 4.6 metres. Compared to the classic SUV, this is particularly advantageous in city traffic or in narrow multi-storey car parks. “External dimensions are defined so that you can park smoothly and still not have to compromise on interior space,” explains Jan Wernli, Marketing Specialist at Mitsubishi Switzerland.

3

overview and security

Another advantage of these vehicles is the higher driving position. “This makes the ride enjoyable,” says Jan Wernli. “In addition, there is a very good overview created by the elevated seating position, which provides additional safety in everyday traffic.”

4

Numerous application areas

Thanks to this combination, the compact SUV is suitable for almost all application areas and car types, from singles to couples and families. From tech enthusiasts to sports enthusiasts and fans of great comfort. And for both everyday city life and weekend trips to the countryside: mini SUV masters narrow the streets – thanks to generous ground clearance – into village lanes and gravel roads.

5

Compact price

Compact SUVs offer lots of cars in a small space. And that too at a mostly compact price. Most crossover models cost between 25,000 and 45,000 francs.

6

sliding rear seat

These are all qualities that also apply to the new Mitsubishi ASX. The Japanese automaker’s category B SUV has been specially designed for the European market and appeals to all types of drivers thanks to a choice of ten different models. There is also a sliding rear seat that allows passengers to have more space or the trunk can be expanded from 332 liters to 401 liters. In terms of price, the Mitsubishi ASX is at the lower end of the stated range. It starts at CHF 24,990.
