Senacyt opens public call

The National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt) this week opened the Public Call for Social Innovation 2023, marking the start of the second and final phase of its Social Innovation Program for Inclusion and Productivity.

The call, open until April 25, 2023, seeks to support the development of innovative solutions that address social problems identified and prioritized by users and relevant actors of corregimientos 24 de Diciembre, in the district Panama; and El Arado, in the district of La Chorrera; and Cocoa, in Capira district; communities where the program is implemented from 2022.

The goal is that innovative ideas implemented among community leaders, companies or trained organizations enable the improvement of the living conditions of the population living in these corregimientos, mainly those in the situation greater poverty.

Water collection, availability and quality of education, garbage and waste managementenvironmental pollution, agricultural production and employment opportunities, were some of the priority social problems identified in the three corregimientos during the first phase of the program.

Program of Social innovation for inclusion and productivity is an initiative funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and developed by Senacyt as an executive agency, through its Business Innovation Directorate, as part of the national Beehive Plan strategy, a public policy designed to eliminate social gaps and economic poverty and inequality affecting thousands of Panamanians families, about 777 thousand people throughout the country, according to official data.
