Here are the taillights on the 2022 Swiss sales lists! From the eleven copies sold to the last place shared by the three models each sold once.
Eleven discontinued models
There are still a limited number of special models on the Audi website, but in fact, the end of the V10 sports car R8 has already been decided. Last year, 11 Swiss bought one of the latest models. Limited to 333 units this year, the GT should be even rarer. At the end of the year, Fiat also stopped production of its cute Cinquecento minivan. Although the 500L has not been offered in Switzerland for a long time, it still found eleven customers – maybe in Ticino?
Jaguar has not yet commented on the future of the XE midsize sedan and will continue to do so. But limousines have always had a hard time in Switzerland, and since the SUV boom has become more and more outdated. With current delivery times, the waiting time may be shorter than with boom models.
ten buses
“Please get off!” said ten Swiss last year. Some needed a little more space and wanted to go electric. They chose the Fiat E-Ulysse, which can seat up to eight people. Ford’s Courier high-roof station wagon is a step smaller.
nine space giants
space is required. The two vans MAN TGE and Renault Master were registered nine times in 2021. Both not only offer a large loading volume, but are also available with electric drive on request. A space giant for families is Mitsubishi’s seven-seat Outlander.
It gets pretty tight on the Lexus LC. But the beautiful V8-powered coupé puts the world at our feet and invites us to outings and road trips.
eight athletes
The names speak for themselves: Bugatti Chiron, Ford GT and Lamborghini Countach. While most people only dream of these cars, last year eight Swiss dreams came true. This is a sales record for the successful new edition of the Lambo icon from the 1970s. Because the Italians built only 113 of the 814 hp (599 kW) powerful V12 hybrid athlete. In other words, seven percent of all Countach production went to Switzerland last year. Can Monaco and Abu Dhabi keep up?
A different kind of athlete is the Nissan Primastar. Not because of its sporty driving performance, but because the van can accommodate an entire sports team with up to nine seats.
Seven family friends
It’s not just the kids playing in the sandbox here, it’s the whole family. Whether it’s a Jeep Cherokee or a Land Rover Discovery, neither will let the end of the road stop them and still take the whole family with them in comfort on off-road adventures. A large friend for the road was enough for seven Swiss families, and they chose Maserati’s Quattroporte sedan.
But sometimes parents need some time to themselves. Two-seaters like the breathtaking Ferrari Monza, the fast-paced McLaren 720S or the agile Toyota Supra are recommended for family planning.
Six exotic exotic
As if the rarest cars in Switzerland weren’t exotic enough, there are even bigger exotic cars here. The Flyweight Lotus Exige has not actually been produced since 2021, and yet six pieces made it to Switzerland. And as if a Lotus wasn’t exotic enough, six other fans of British engineering brought the Morgan Plus 6 roadster to Switzerland.
Alfa Romeo became almost as exotic as Lotus and Morgan because the brand almost went bankrupt. However, the Stelvio and Giulia models revived the traditional Italian brand. The tiny Giulietta was discontinued as an exotic model in the 2020 model range, but six new ones were registered in Switzerland last year.
Five flea market finds
Welcome to the flea market. Everything from golf clubs to a cherry wood cabinet and porcelain tea set can be found here. In Swiss sales statistics, cars registered five times look like a flea market. There is the hybrid athlete McLaren Artura, the predecessor of the Nissan bus Primastar NV300, and the small-town runner the Seat Mii.
four legends
Valkyries are a mythical figure from Norse mythology. They take the fallen warriors to Valhalla, the kingdom of heaven, and they are warriors themselves. Aston Martin has named its new sports car pioneer after the legendary figure. Four pieces of the Valkyrie, designed by F1 star designer Adrian Newey, arrived in Switzerland last year.
three newcomers
In fact, these two newcomers should only start in Switzerland this year. However, three Ford Broncos and three Peugeot 408s were registered in Switzerland last year. The explanation for this is very simple. The 408 is already launching this month, so some dealers are likely to pre-empt the vehicles. The Bronco is likely to be a direct import, as the SUV has been on the US market since 2021.
Although Volvo’s subsidiary Polestar has been on the road as an independent brand for four years, it can still be considered a newcomer. With the stylish plug-in hybrid coupé Polestar 1, the first model was again delivered from Sweden to Switzerland in 2022.
two collections
Collectible items must be rare by definition, otherwise they will not attract collectors. And rarer than the Bugatti Centodieci. The French luxury brand produces only ten of these. Crazy: One-fifth of the two-piece limited edition model was sold in Switzerland last year!
Aston Martin Speedster, McLaren Speedtail and Rolls-Royce Dawn collectibles may not be that special, but they are definitely eye-catching.
a race track
The rarest cars in Switzerland may be legal to be on the road, but they’re really at home on the racetrack. They are not hindered by rush hour traffic, tram routes or speed limits. That’s because cars like the Bugatti Divo, Ferrari 488 or McLaren 620R reach highway speeds almost at idle. They excite with their acceleration on the track and their precision in the corners.
