20 tweets that sum up Elon Musk’s mind-boggling chaos on Twitter

Twitter employees had to commit to overtime and a “hardcore” company culture on Thursday night — or leave with severance pay. As it turns out, the majority will probably take the money and move on.

Elon Musk’s “take it or leave it” is not well received. Hundreds of employees are voluntarily leaving Twitter, including many senior executives. Those who stay expect the platform to collapse soon.

Musk issued an ultimatum on Wednesday: “Extreme hardcore” culture with overtime or getting fired.

On Wednesday evening, Musk issued an ultimatum to workers left over from his first wave of layoffs to work overtime or leave the company.

He warned employees that it would be “extremely hardcore” to implement his vision of “Twitter 2.0”. Those who do not confirm via a link by Thursday 5 p.m. (local time New York) that they want to be part of the “new Twitter”, will be fired and will receive three months’ severance pay.

It now appears that many of the remaining Twitter employees show Musk the bird and leave en masse.

Employees who are indispensable to the day-to-day business and entire core teams responsible for key infrastructure have apparently resigned.

The team that maintains Twitter’s central system libraries, which every software engineer in the company uses, is also gone. “You can’t run Twitter without this team,” a retired employee told US tech blog The Verge.

Virtually the entire IT security team would have resigned. Some have been fired, the top people are now leaving voluntarily because they have better alternatives.

Payroll and other finance teams also seem to be tipping their hats.

In panic mode, Musk used video conferencing to convince key employees to stay. Some left the online meeting when the 5 p.m. deadline passed.

Hundreds of employees made it clear in the company chat that they did not want to be part of Musk’s “Twitter 2.0”.

About 75% of the remaining employees would have initially ignored Musk’s deadline.

Some will change their mind, but it is estimated that more than half of those who remain have had enough. Exact numbers are not known.

Musk fueled the exodus by saying goodbye to those who had previously been fired with mockery and malice.

Ex-employees share videos of them leaving Twitter.

There is a good chance that Twitter will soon stop working properly, say several employees.

Those who were actually fired still had access to Twitter’s system hours after the deadline. This may be because those responsible for access rights have also stepped down.

Meanwhile, Twitter has temporarily closed all office buildings and blocked badge access.

Apparently, Musk fears that employees could sabotage the company.

And finally this – Professor Scott Galloway on Musk: “I think this is a person who has shown a total lack of decency, has no guardrails around him and whose wealth is likely to be cut in half.”
