With the Epiq, Skoda will launch its smallest electric car to date in 2025. It will probably be one of the cheapest electric vehicles on the market, priced below 25,000 euros.

Skoda wants to launch a new small electric SUV in 2025. The Epiq will sit below the electric crossover Elroq, which will be launched this year, in the model range and will also introduce new customer segments to the taste for electric in terms of price: it should start at less than 25,000 euros; currently just over 24,000 francs. Epiq would be an alternative for anyone for whom Volkswagen Group’s electric cars were previously too expensive.

Skoda chief designer Oliver Stefani calls Skoda’s new design line “Modern Solid”. In the Epiq, the rear is almost Volvo-like, while the front is shaped more like a grinning face and is therefore family-friendly. The Epiq is still just a concept car, but experience from Skoda studies shows that it shouldn’t be too far off from the production model.

Ample space at only 4.10 meters long

At 4.10 metres, there is officially enough room for two adults and two children in five seats, as well as a surprisingly generous 490-litre variable load space. The cockpit combines a small information display with a large central display for the instruments. The electric range of the 136 to 204 hp (100 to 150 kW) crossover is said to be around 400 kilometers. Real progress: Thanks to its bidirectional charging capability, Epiq can be integrated into the home power grid as a power storage device.

With the Epiq, Skoda currently seems to be ahead in the internal race for the 25,000 Euro electric car. VW plans its four-meter small car ID.2 in the same price range for 2025; However, the relevant SUV and a smaller electric vehicle in the 20,000 euro segment are also not expected to be launched until 2026.

Is the price realistic?

Can Epiq’s price be maintained? This also depends on the general economic and political situation. If raw material prices and wages continue to rise or supply chains are disrupted, the Epiq and VW Group’s other small electric cars could also become more expensive.

The automaker, based in Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic, will invest several billion euros in electromobility in the coming years. Epiq will roll off the assembly line at the company’s Pamplona plant in Spain. Information about the launch time and actual prices in Switzerland is not yet available.
