The compact crossover Puma tops Ford’s sales charts across Switzerland in 2023 (2,156 sales). Therefore, it is not surprising that everything remains the same in the revised model. Visually, the new model differs little from its predecessor. In addition to the optional new Matrix LED headlights, the facelift brings new displays in the cockpit, as well as more driver assistance systems and a sleek design.

Three drive types with mild hybrid system

The Puma is still powered by the famous EcoBoost turbo three-cylinder engine, which has a displacement of one liter and three power levels: 125 hp (92 kW), 155 hp (114 kW) and 160 hp (117 kW). The sportiest ST version also features a boost system that provides a power output of 170 hp (125 kW) for a short period of time (e.g. for overtaking). While the basic version is connected to a six-speed manual transmission, the more powerful three-cylinder engine transfers its power to the front axle via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Standard consumption is between 6.0 and 6.5 l/100 km, depending on the engine. An all-wheel drive version is not offered and neither is the older top model with a 200 hp 1.5-litre turbo. The drives are based on a mild hybrid system with a belt starter generator that replaces the normal alternator and recovers electrical energy during braking or coasting and stores it in a 48-volt battery.

The electric version will arrive later in the year.

The interior of the short 4.20-meter crossover features a display unit enlarged to 12.8 inches and a 12-inch central display in the middle of the front panel. The touchscreen now takes over the function of many switches and controls. Puma also has new driver assistance systems such as a 360-degree camera, reversing assistant with emergency braking feature and connection via 5G mobile network. The new coating on the windshield improves noise comfort and the optional panoramic sunroof brings more light into the interior if desired.

Ford does not take any risks with its new model and provides more comfort to the market leader with improvements. Prices for Switzerland have not been announced yet; Sales will start in June. After the summer holidays, things get even more interesting: Next comes the fully electric version Ford Puma Gen-E. However, Ford does not want to disclose further details yet.
