This is made possible thanks to the new top model with the somewhat cumbersome model name Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E-Performance. Behind the name lies a clear dream sled, the likes of which have never been seen before in the roadster world. In the SL 63 SE, the four-liter V8 biturbo engine, already known from the SL and GT, is combined with a 204 hp (150 kW) electric motor at the rear axle. The plug-in hybrid system currently installed in the four-door model of the AMG GT has a huge total power of 816 hp (600 kW) and a maximum torque of 1420 Nm. The 2+2-seater vehicle accelerates to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 317 km/h. It goes without saying that the mega roadster broke all previous records in the traditional series. The previous top model, the SL 63 4Matic+, has to make do with 585 hp (430 kW) and 800 Nm.

And the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E-Performance even glides for several kilometers without emissions: The 6.1 kilowatt-hour battery is theoretically enough for a purely electric journey of 13 kilometers. Charging is carried out via the installed 3.7 kW onboard AC charger. However, the electric motor is designed primarily to provide assistance during starting and acceleration, not as the sole source of propulsion. However, if the speed is suitable for the type, this value is unlikely to be achieved in practice, as is often the case with plug-in hybrids.
