It is important that skis or snowboards are adequately and well secured. Visibility should also not be impaired. Unfortunately, many people do not realize how dangerous transportation can be if skis or sleds are not adequately secured to the roof or inside the car.

Luggage net as security

Skis carried in the car should always be loaded in the front seat. It is best to fold the seats and attach the equipment to the appropriate devices using a tension belt. Heavy and large objects belong to the lower part of the trunk. Loading more cargo than the top edge of the rear seat is not prohibited, but it does restrict your view. Then a luggage net will definitely help in terms of security.

But in general, I recommend a roof box or a specially designed roof rack for transporting skis or snowboards. However, it should also be noted that these change the driving behavior of the car. It increases the vehicle’s center of gravity and makes it more vulnerable to side winds. This is also noticeable during a sudden evasive maneuver. Additionally, the permissible ceiling load must not be exceeded. This is stated in the vehicle registration document under section 55 and specifies the permitted total weight of the roof rack, roof rack and its contents. Do not forget to check the tire pressure if the loading weight of the vehicle increases.
