The European car industry is calling for more incentives for the purchase of electric cars

The European car industry wants politicians to provide more incentives for the purchase of electric cars. In a manifesto presented on Wednesday, trade association Acea calls for “expansion of purchasing incentives, purchasing programs and tax benefits for consumers and companies”.

The demands for the coming years are addressed to the European Parliament and the European Commission.

The industry must work with politicians and create the conditions so that a wide range of climate-friendly vehicles can be produced, said Acea president Luca de Meo. This also included small, affordable electric vehicles that could be produced profitably in Europe.

The manifesto states that there is no doubt that less climate-damaging CO2 will enter the atmosphere. “The future of our planet is at stake.”

The automotive industry is a crucial economic sector in Europe. According to Acea, the sector employs around 13 million people and is responsible for seven percent of the EU’s gross domestic product.
