At the end of the quarter, the company had just over 223 million subscriptions worldwide, an increase of 2.4 million, it announced Tuesday.
After a sharp drop in subscriptions in the first half of the year, investors feared the streaming service pioneer would lose paying customers.
The service is struggling, among other things, with increasing competition from new offers, such as those from Disney and Apple. Netflix announced last week that it will offer an ad-supported service in Germany and 11 other countries from November.
Netflix had long resisted an ad-supported tariff. However, given the increasing competition in the streaming market, declining subscription numbers and rising inflation, the US company decided in April to offer a cheaper rate, which, unlike the existing offer, includes advertising. The company hopes this will bring in new customers. (sda/afp)
