The best features of iOS 17 for iPhone that you shouldn’t miss

Before the iPhone 15 goes on sale on Friday, Apple has released the new generation of its mobile operating system.

Have you heard? iOS 17 is here. Apple released the several gigabytes (GB) iPhone update for download on Monday evening. You can obtain this via the Settings app.

Should you install iOS 17 now?

It depends on whether you have a fast internet connection and enough time. The update may take fifteen minutes or a little longer.

We have not received any alarming feedback that serious system issues will occur after the update. The beta versions of iOS 17 have been intensively tested for several months, but minor ‘teething problems’ cannot be ruled out.

What does iOS 17 bring?

A variety of new features, as well as under-the-hood improvements aimed at making everyday iPhone life easier.

You can, among other things:

  • Individual “contact posters” create, these are text-image combinations that you can create for yourself and any desired contact. Simply click > in the top right corner of the Contacts app Editing > tap.
  • About the souped-up airdrop function It’s even easier to share files with other iPhone users by keeping the mobile devices together.
  • With the Travel companion function (in the Messages app) you can let a friend know that you have arrived safely at a specific location.
  • The Standby function turns the iPhone into a kind of modern clock radio when you put it down or stand it upright to charge (in landscape format).
  • Avoid typos, thanks improved autocorrect. The whole thing is based on machine learning (AI) and should run solely on the device itself, so (unlike the Android competition) no potentially revealing data is sent to a server.
  • For lazy typists: Voice dictations (via microphone) should now work much more reliably. The system recognizes from the voice whether a punctuation mark needs to be placed. The big BUT: Siri dominates no Swiss German!
  • New Planet backgrounds
  • Lots of new ringtones and sound effects
  • Create animated stickersfor example, from your own pet or other living creature.
  • The Widgets are finally interactiveFor example, smart home devices can be controlled directly on the lock screen or home screen.
  • Bee Create Safari usage profilesto clearly separate business and private surfing. You can do this in the Settings app > safari > be set up.
  • Define offline maps for Apple Mapsto be able to access a map area in remote locations (without mobile phone reception). Setting it up is relatively simple: tap your profile photo in the Map app > Offline maps > select and set options.

iPadOS17 is now available for the iPad, watchOS10 for the Apple Watch and tvOS17 for the Apple TV. Mac users, on the other hand, will probably have to be patient.
