The tech group Microsoft plans to hire 100 additional employees in Switzerland next year. In the future, 700 instead of the previous 600 people will work in the cloud, as Catrin Hinkel, the boss of Microsoft Switzerland, said in an interview.
The new employees are intended for the branches in Zurich, Bern and Geneva, Hinkel told the “Sonntagszeitung”.
However, the company feels the shortage of skilled labor. Microsoft Switzerland therefore decided to train young people themselves.
As an explanation of why Switzerland is important for the cloud business, Hinkel referred to the legal certainty surrounding data storage and the “ideal conditions for innovations”.
According to Hinkel, Microsoft is prepared for a possible power shortage. The company has been classified as “systemic” for its Swiss data centers and the contingency plan also provides for operation with generators.
