With iOS 17, Apple will release a new version of its mobile operating system for iPhones in the fall. With the upcoming version, older devices will traditionally be selected and will no longer receive support.
But there should also be new system software for newer Apple Watch models and iPads. An overview:

With iOS 17, the iPhone models 8 and X are no longer supported. For these devices, iOS 16 is the latest available version of Apple’s mobile operating system.
The update for iPad, iPadOS 17, will also not be available for all tablets.
