The electric version of the Ford F-150 Lightning, which is the best-selling pick-up of all time in America, has been on the market for about a year. The Maxus T90 EV is now the first electric pickup to enter the European market.

The Maxus brand should mean almost nothing to most people. The Chinese commercial vehicle maker is owned by the powerful SAIC Group, the largest conglomerate of Chinese automakers. Maxus has been selling turntables and e-vans like the eDeliver 3 or eDeliver 9 in Europe for some time now. Now the T90 is the first open loading area and plug-in vehicle.

The 89 kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium iron phosphate battery from the eDeliver 9 is less surprising than the fact that the electric Maxus T90 is rear-wheel drive only. Of course, a 4×4 variant will also arrive next year.

At the rear axle, a 133 kW (177 hp) electric motor with 310 Nm provides a top speed of 120 km/h and a maximum range of 330 kilometers. You can switch between three different driving modes (Normal, Sport, Eco). The battery pack charges from 20 percent to 80 percent in about 45 minutes using a DC fast charger. Alternatively, the 5.37 meter long turntable can be connected to the wall box and charged in three stages.

No options

The T90 EV is equipped as standard with 17-inch aluminum wheels, side step moldings, parking aid with reversing camera, LED headlights and loadspace protection. The cockpit features a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth and smartphone interfaces.

Anyone not keen on neutral white paint can also pick up the Maxus electric pick-up in metallic blue, black or gray for an additional 750 francs. There are no other extras or options. The Chinese commercial vehicle brand offers a five-year vehicle warranty of up to 100,000 kilometers, as well as a warranty of up to eight years or 160,000 kilometers on the battery pack.

The CHF 55.500 Maxus T90 EV offers space for five people with a crew cabin. Larger items such as EU pallets can also be transported seamlessly in the 1.49 meter long and 1.51 meter wide loading area. Its carrying capacity is 925 kilograms, its towing capacity is quite narrow 1000 kilograms.

“The new Maxus T90 EV proves that high payload and alternative drivers are by no means mutually exclusive. We are pioneering Europe’s first battery-powered pick-up and shaking up the vehicle segment. Maxus Germany Sales Manager Karsten Dornheim (41) said that while doing this, our brand’s European footprint We are also laying the foundation for further growth.” The first electric pickup truck in Europe can now also be ordered for Switzerland.
