Bayern celebrate their 11th title in a row – and yet the rumble continues.

Uli Hoeness (71), the strong man at Bayern Munich, reports with clear words. In an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” he talks about the turbulent weeks with the German series champion. The highlight was CEO Oliver Kahn (53) and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic (46) being fired in the middle of the championship celebration.

Hoeness certainly causes surprise. Namely that he has hardly had any contact with Oliver Kahn since he joined the board in 2020 and became chairman in 2021. Or that he was not aware of Nagelsmann’s dismissal.

Uli Hoeness on the criticism of the timing of the layoffs…

«…we thought about it carefully beforehand. It would not have been fair to discuss such important decisions with those involved only 24 hours before the Supervisory Board meeting. So there was no real alternative (…) we cannot make such important questions for the future of FC Bayern dependent on whether Borussia Dortmund scores 3-2 in the 97th minute – or not. If they shoot it, will we leave the board, if they don’t shoot it, will they stay? You can’t do it like that.”

On the firing of Oliver Kahn…

«…temporarily it got loud. The news that he couldn’t continue didn’t come out of the blue: we had hinted to him repeatedly that there was a possibility. After three quarters of an hour he hurried away. (…) Oliver had largely focused on Jan-Christian Dreesen, his successor. He feels that Jan is responsible for losing his job – which is not true.”

Hoeness does not want to comment on the rumor that he and Herbert Hainer were afraid of physical violence from Kahn.

On the relationship with Kahn over the years…

«…Oliver is generally not the type to constantly seek contact. I recently checked: Oliver may have called me five times in all that time. (…) I also thought to myself: let them do it. And if they succeed, then everything is fine. But then things like Julian Nagelsmann’s firing happened and the disturbing feelings gradually increased. »

About the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann…

…which he was not involved in. “Nobody. Herbert Hainer, as chairman of the supervisory board, was also informed much too late. And that just doesn’t work. On the Wednesday before the final divorce, Hasan stood at my door and said: we want to do it, and actually we have already decided.”

About the sporting crisis in the second half of the season…

«… if you give four and a half weeks of vacation (after the World Cup, ed.), you need at least six weeks of preparation. But we only had two and a half weeks! Some of our players haven’t played a serious game from early November to mid-January. (…) How should you be fit? In my playing career I have never had four weeks of vacation, not even in the summer. (…) I am convinced that Thomas Tuchel suffered in the second half of the season from the lack of basic stamina of some players.” (mkb)
