Toilet scandal at the French Open: Kokkinakis ranting at the referee

In 2022 Thanasi Kokkinakis (27) cheered together with Nick Kyrgios (28) at the Australian Open. As qualifiers, they won the doubles title. For both, it was the biggest success of their careers – and for once in a match, Kyrgios went unnoticed as a bad boy. Now Kokkinakis proves that he is in no way inferior to his Australian compatriot.

In the third round of the French Open, he will compete against referee Katarzyna Radwan-Cho. The reason? Kokkinakis, of course, has to go to the toilet urgently and is not allowed to.

Kokkinakis knows no rules

He has just lost the second set to Karen Chatschanow (27) and his back is against the wall. So he asks the referee for a toilet break. But she says no and explains that he left after the first sentence. Players are only allowed one three-minute toilet break per game. There is only a second when it comes to a fifth sentence.

“Okay, I didn’t know this rule, now tell me I have 50 seconds,” Kokkinakis said first, apparently insightful. But then he starts his tirade. “Can’t you just be realistic and give me something decent for once? Damn shit, we get two for a game.”

A used day

The referee remains calm, undisturbed by the shouting and does not change his mind. “Do you want me to pee on the chair? Is that what you want? Then what do you want?” Kokkinakis gets louder and louder.

In the end, all the noise is useless. Not even when the Australian said it could have consequences for him. “In my last game I cramped because I couldn’t, so brutal.”

Nevertheless, he must continue the game without diverting to the toilet. He wins the third set, but eventually loses with 4:6, 1:6, 6:3, 6:7. A used day for Kokkinakis, for which he finally has only one word left on Twitter: “F ***”. (bir)
