Alberto Corbacho, Obradoiro’s player in the promotion of Burgos on June 3, 2011: “In the key moments of the game I managed to appear with threes”

Author: PACO RODRIGUEZ

It was a great pleasure and a great relief to reach the goal, recalls the Mallorcan

Alberto Corbacho (Palma de Mallorca, 1984) He was the star of the last match against Burgos, on June 3, 2011, 12 years ago. Obradoiro achieved promotion to the ACB in the fourth game of the third playoff series. Since then, Moncho Fernández’s men have continued in the league of stars.

— What do you remember from that season finale?

— It was a great pleasure and a great relief to achieve the goal. We got promoted in the regular season, but we got it in the playoffs. It was very nice. We had three excellent series, in which we showed our potential. It was a well-deserved promotion. We are competing against three great teams. In the first game, it almost changed the direction we were going, but in the end we managed to overcome it and completely dominate in the three playoff series.

— Was Burgos the toughest opponent of the three?

— Climbing is never easy, but the truth is that we were at a high level in the three qualifying games. We only lost two games. A minute before the end, we almost lost the first clash with Cáceres, but we reacted. With our game, we managed not to lose the field factor that was in our favor. We had a lot of confidence playing in Šar and in three series we went 2-0.

— The team was relegated and promoted the following year. Only one season in LEB Oro.

—We succeeded in the first attempt, but in LEB Oro there are currently many teams playing in ACB. LEB is a competition in which there is greater equality and competitiveness. There are teams with great potential, both sporting and economic. This season, Andorra, which was the favorite, qualified directly. He dominated from start to finish, but you don’t climb with a name anymore. Look at Students or Burgos. They try, but they can’t go back. It is very difficult to go up.

— What do you remember from that last game against Burgos?

— I am really very happy and satisfied with my personal performance in the playoffs. I especially remember the last game. I really wanted to and I was very mentalized. I needed to take some of the pressure off that I went into that game, since I didn’t have a great performance in the third game. In the game in which we progressed, I picked up the pace a little and in key moments I managed to appear with three-pointers.

— That day changed the history of Obradoiro.

– Yes, of course, mine too. The opportunity I was looking for has arrived. I wanted to play in ACB and I got that by working my way up the team. I wanted to show that I could compete at that level. Since then I had a great race and enjoyed a great stage in Obradoiro. I am very proud of my time in Santiago. I feel the love that the fans have for me and I am very satisfied with the work done. It was a great stage in which very important records and challenges were achieved. This season, Obra once again achieved its goal. It will be another campaign in ACB. It is not easy to be in that elite for so many years in a row.

— And that’s harder to achieve with the same coach on the bench, isn’t it?

— In the English style, where coaches spend a lot of time on the benches. Moncho Fernández is a coach with a wide repertoire and a lot of basketball. It achieves its goals year after year. The team is already consolidated in the Endesa League.

Does it have an expiration date?

“I will continue to play. I would like to be taller, but I enjoy sports and basketball where I am. I like helping the little ones. Now I am also with the campus in Cullered and some other project. As long as my body lasts and my head is in good shape, I will continue to play and enjoy myself, helping the youngest to progress in this wonderful sport.

From July 3 to 14, he will be with the youngest at the Culleredo campus

Alberto Corbacho Basketball Campus, in Cullered, will be held from 3 to 7 and from 10 to 14 July. It will be from Monday to Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The term, which will take place in two shifts, will be for boys and girls born from 2005 to 2014.
