The field of participants of the 86th Tour de Suisse will have a prominent addition. More than a week before the start, road world champion Remco Evenepoel announced his participation.
The 23-year-old Belgian had to withdraw from the Giro d’Italia as the leader of the general classification in mid-May after testing positive for Covid-19. Now he has determined his further racing program and has chosen Switzerland as the place for his comeback. Evenepoel has good memories of the eight-day state tour, last year he won the final time trial in Vaduz.
After the Tour de Suisse and participation in the national championships in Belgium, his focus is on preparation for the World Championships in Glasgow in early August, where he will defend his rainbow jersey. Last year’s Vuelta winner soon gave up on the idea of competing in the Tour de France after his Giro-Out.
The Tour de Suisse starts on Sunday 11 June with a 12.7 km individual time trial in Einsiedeln. (SDA)
