Three young men arrested for racist insults against Vinicius at the Mestalla have been released

Author: National police

The action was motivated by the procedure initiated by the prosecutor’s office in Valencia

It didn’t take long for the national police to attack the first arrests after the scandal produced last Sunday at the Mestallawhen the game had to be stopped Valencia and Real Madrid after a few minutes, as a result of racist insults received by Vinicius. The three young men were arrested, between the ages of 18 and 21, were released after giving a statement. As police sources reported to Efe, they have been informed of the need to appear in court if they are sued. They are charged with an alleged criminal offense related to the exercise of fundamental rights and public freedoms. The investigation, in which Valencia CF cooperated, remains open to try to identify other possible perpetrators of similar behavior.

The racist insults suffered by Brazilian Real Madrid player Vinicius u location, which led to the match being stopped to point out the culprits, set off a chain reaction in Spanish football, with complaints to the prosecutor’s office and demands for urgent measures to remove the stain of racism. The events took place halfway through the second half of the match between Real Madrid and Che’s team when shouts of “monkey” were heard from the Mestalla stands addressed to the Madrid striker. Vinicius confronted those fans, accusing them of racially abusing him. The Brazilian was accompanied at this event by several colleagues, including Lucas Vázquez.

Afterwards, both Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti and match referee De Burgos Bengoeche spoke to the striker to try to convince him to continue on the pitch. The soccer player accepted it until a few minutes later in the middle of a fight he pounced on Hugo Dura, who had grabbed him by the neck a few moments before. At that moment, the referee sent off the Brazilian, who left the field heading towards the stands with two fingers raised in a clear gesture to remind them that they can go to the second league. Mestalla’s response was to sing thunderously, “Silly, sill!”

The arrest of these three young people, about whom nothing else has been revealed so far, coincides with another arrest in Madrid against four people, three of whom are from the Athletic Front, because a few months ago they hung a banner on the bridge near the sports city of Real Madrid with with a doll in Vinicius’ shirt.

The Prosecutor’s Office takes over the Vinicius case

He Real Madrid filed a complaint on Monday with the department against of hate crimes and discrimination from the State Attorney’s Office for the serious events that took place at the Mestalla, with Vinicius as the sad protagonist who was the subject of various racist insults. The Movement Against Intolerance (MCI) and the Association of Spanish Football Players (AFE) did the same.

The Prosecutor for hate crimes in Valencia, Susana Gisbert, reported on the opening of the investigation and warned that appropriate procedures will be implemented, “such as a request for recordings from the media or whoever, and an arbitration act.” All this in order to decide whether the facts will be presented to the court, archived or referred to some other body for possible sanctions in the administrative procedure. All in order to determine not only whether there were insults, “something more than obvious”, but whether the same “are motivated by the color of the victim’s skin and if, in addition, they involve humiliation or contempttwo circumstances that a criminal type requires,” he recalled.

Perpetrators of the offended would face penalties ranging from a fine to four years in prison for a hate crime, depending on the legal type and circumstances of the individual case.

Gisbert stated that It is “important” to act “absolutely and without cracks” in this type of cases before the repercussions of sports such as football. “It is precisely in this area, in sports, that good values should prevail, so this kind of practice must be stopped at the root,” he said.

Video on social networks

Vinicius Junior this Monday they posted a video on their networks that shows racist insults in stadiums such as Mestalla, Metropolitan, Camp Nou, José Zorrilla and Son Moix, with a message requesting that he be criminalized. The white player asks “until when?” and remember, according to Ephesus, that “racism is a crime”.

“Checked. Every day outside the home brings an unpleasant surprise. And this season there were many of them. Death wishes, a hanging doll, many criminal screams… Everything registered,” he condemns.

“But the discourse always falls on ‘isolated cases’, ‘amateurs’. No, they are not isolated cases. These are continuous episodes distributed in several cities in Spain (and even in a television program). The evidence is there, in the video. Now I ask you: How many of those racists had their names and photos published on websites? I answer to make it easier: zero. None to tell a sad story or apologize publicly,” he adds, according to Efe.

They appear in the video Scenes from the Mestalla where he is called a “monkey” at the entrance to the stadium and from various places in the stands before the incident, as well as those that happened on one of the approaches to the Metropolitan before the derby, shouts of “black bastard” and “shit black” when he retreated down the flank in Pucela next to the throaty sound of various fans.

Also singing “Vinicius die” at Camp Nou or the exclamation “go pick bananas!” at the Mestalla, except it shows a mannequin painted black hanging from a bridge in Madrid with his shirt on. “Until when?” asks the Brazilian player at the end of the video in black letters. “Racism is a crime.”

Vinicius is looking for a firm hand. «What is missing to criminalize these people? And sportingly punish the clubs? Why don’t sponsors charge La Liga? Don’t televisions try to broadcast this barbarity every weekend? The problem is very serious and press releases are no longer useful. Blaming to justify criminal acts was. It’s not football, it’s inhumane,” he said, reports Efe.
