Dawid Kubacki has had an eventful few months.

Polish ski jumper Dawid Kubacki (33) competed for the big crystal ball last season. But from one moment to the next, the overall World Cup became an afterthought. In March, he ended the season early and traveled home.

His wife Marta was in hospital for cardiological reasons, he said on Instagram at the time. “She is in bad shape and the doctors are fighting for her life. She is in good hands, a strong woman and I know she will fight.”

family support

For weeks he hoped and feared for her life. Now he talks to “skijumping.pl” about the personal hell he went through. It’s a situation that no one is or can be prepared for, says Kubacki. It’s especially bad when it hits a loved one. “I know you can’t help in the hospital. But in such a situation you just want to be with your loved ones and take care of your children.”

The couple’s two daughters are still small, the youngest was only born in January of this year. The only worry put a lot of pressure on Kubacki and sometimes made him desperate. “Especially in the early stages I had to put in a lot of effort. I cried a lot,” he openly admits. Thankfully, the couple’s families were there to support him as he watched over his wife in the hospital for nearly a month.

“It Was a Miracle”

She survived thanks to a pacemaker implanted in her. “The doctors did a great job,” says Kubacki. He knows who to thank. “We were able to leave the hospital after less than a month. It was very bad, but then her heart values started to return to normal. It was a miracle.”
