After Bayern’s misstep against Leipzig and Dortmund’s away win in Augsburg, one thing is clear: BVB is still missing a home win for the German championship. The Munich horror scenario of an untitled season is upon us.
At the end of March, they wanted to prevent exactly this scenario with the change of coach from Julian Nagelsmann (35) to Thomas Tuchel (49), although they still had the best chances for the title in all three competitions. The goals of the season were in jeopardy, Bayern management said at the time. Now the minimum goal is probably gone, because with Tuchel the misery came to Munich.
It started with the disappointing end of the DFB Cup against Freiburg, and a little later you had to give up against Manchester City in the Champions League. Tuchel was in the Munich coaching chair for less than a month before two titles were gone.
In the Bundesliga, the coach has only taken 16 of a possible 24 points since his departure. Not enough for Bavaria’s demands and not enough to become German champions. In addition, the defense of the record champion is shaky. In the first eleven games under Tuchel, Munich already conceded 16 goals in all competitions, in Nagelsmann’s last eleven there were 12 more.
Another problem for Bayern: the star ensemble usually starts well, but then declines drastically. In three of the four defeats under the new coach, the series champions were in the lead before collapsing in the second half and the opponent was able to turn the game around.
Inexplicably for the coach: «After 30 minutes we stopped, in the second half we were no longer there. I have no explanation how something like this could happen,” he said despairingly to “Sky” after the defeat in Leipzig. There was no reason why his team would keep slipping these games.
Tuchel’s helplessness borders on bankruptcy. Perhaps out of desperation, he now even refers to his predecessor Julian Nagelsmann. “If everything had gone well, you wouldn’t have had to change coaches.”
Air expert Lothar Matthäus (62) speaks plain text in the “Bild”: “It can’t go on like this at Bayern. There must now be a hard analysis and a ruthless assessment with consequences, on and off the field. Regardless of names or functions.”
Will Tuchel also be questioned? Hardly likely. The bosses, especially Uli Hoeness (71), trust him to build a new team.
