There are worlds between FC Basel and Real Madrid. Sporty and financial. But in one discipline, red and blue keep pace with the royals this season. And even has the chance to finish the season at the top of its class in Europe.

Thanks to qualification for the semi-finals in the Conference and Champions League, both Basel and Real will have played at least 61 games by the end of the season. Those who reach the final will have 62. No other team on the continent will have more games scheduled at the end of the season. If both FCB and Real are eliminated in the semi-finals, they will have to share the title for most games played (61) in the 2022/23 season with Manchester City.

Internationally alone, FCB will have played at least 20 matches, including the qualifying, group and knockout stages – if they make it to the final it would be 21. More than half a Super League season.

Eleven games more than Zurich

A look at FCB’s selection shows: Central defender Andy Pelmard is the all-time favorite with 4,427 minutes played. Goalie Marwin Hitz follows closely with 4350 minutes. Another defender, Kasim Adams, has the third most minutes (3724) in his legs.

Also interesting: although twelve players have played more minutes than Darian Males, the Inter Milan mercenary leads FCB’s internal ranking (11 goals and 15 assists). Of all the players used, Aaron Akalé has accumulated the fewest minutes so far.

A comparison with the competition in the Super League shows that FCB has played at least eleven games more than the team with the second most games (FCZ with 51) by the end of the season. Winterthur, Luzern and GC have the fewest matches with 39 each.
