The 14 worst teams of the last NBA season all had a chance to make the first pick in the lottery. The San Antonio Spurs secured this top prize.

Spurs had a 14 per cent chance of making the first choice and were the third worst team last season with 60 losses. Particularly bitter: with the Detroit Pistons, the worst team (65 losses) falls out of the top 3, they have to settle for the fifth choice.

“Alien” Wembanyama as the grand prize

Thanks to the winning ticket, San Antonio now has the opportunity to add Victor Wembanyama to their squad for the draft on June 22, 2023. The 19-year-old Frenchman, also known as “Alien”, is 222 cm tall and is considered to be the talent of the century. Despite his size, he is extremely agile and able to grasp the ring almost from a standing position.

The prodigy was previously under contract with the French team Metropolitans 92, but the hype was already so great in the US that all his matches were shown live on TV. For connoisseurs it is clear: Wembanyama is the greatest talent since LeBron James (38) in 2003.

Wembanyama joins one of the most successful NBA teams of the 21st century.
