It’s a scene for the history books. Rafael Leao’s 70-yard solo a month ago, before Olivier Giroud won 1-0 against Napoli in the second leg of the quarter-final, made every football fan’s heart beat faster. The dynamism, pace and unpredictability make the 23-year-old one of the brightest prospects in world football.

The Portuguese with Angolan roots is the decisive factor in Milan to end their 11-year streak of losses and win the Scudetto last year. Chelsea are showing great interest in Serie A’s best player and are offering Pulisic and Zyech in exchange, according to The Athletic. However, Milan insists on a compensation of 150 million euros.

Leao’s performances have been less consistent this season, but Milan lost all four of his games in his absence. The wing will be sorely missed in last week’s first leg against Inter in the semi-finals. Milan is already 0:2 behind after 11 minutes, at halftime it should already be 0:3 or 0:4. However, with Inter failing to seal the deal, Milan remain a ray of hope for the second leg.

New contract until 2028

Now the Portuguese, who forms one of Europe’s best duos with Theo Hernandez on the left, is back after recovering from a muscle injury. In the meantime, the future of Leao also seems to have been clarified. Milan wants to keep him until 2028. There is talk of an annual salary of five million euros net plus bonus payments and an exit clause of 175 million. The deal is a foregone conclusion, but not yet official. It would also be the happy ending to a long-standing affair.

Leao suddenly left his youth club Sporting Lisbon in 2018 after fans stormed the training ground. Lille then signed him on a free transfer, a year later he moved to Milan for almost 30 million euros. Sporting sued for breach of contract – and were partially right. According to “L’Equipe”, Milan and Lille have now reached an agreement on who will pay the approximately 20 million to which Sporting is entitled.
