In the qualifying tournament for the Nations Cup final in Gstaad, the Swiss beach volleyball players won Germany and qualified for the final tournament in the fall.
Adrian Heidrich and Leo Dillier triumphed in the final against Germany in the crucial golden set 15:10. The national champions paved the way for Switzerland to win the tournament with a two-set victory in the first final. Then Yves Haussener and Quentin Métral missed closing the sack with a two-set loss. Not surprisingly, both coaches rely on the winning team for the one short set – with the better ending for Switzerland.
Launched in 2022, the Nations Cup is similar to the Davis Cup in tennis, and represents a good chance for Switzerland to be represented in the men’s beach volleyball tournament at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. At the final tournament of the eight best countries in the autumn, the Swiss will have the opportunity to secure a place for next year’s Olympic qualifying tournament at a location yet to be determined. To do this, they must finish the tournament in the top 3. (SDA/nsa)
