Master Servette gets the next Finn star

The 31-year-old Finnish Olympic champion and two-time world champion was in demand on the Swiss transfer market – now champion Servette has won the game. Not least because he will meet familiar faces in Geneva with his national teammates Sami Vatanen, Teemu Hartikainen and possibly Valtteri Filppula (if he extends his career again).

Manninen was part of the Finnish Olympic winning team in 2022 and became world champion in 2021 and 2022. The center from Oulu is currently playing at the World Cup in Tampere and wants to achieve the golden hat-trick of the World Cup with his compatriots. That season, he tried his hand with the Vegas Golden Knights, but had to spend the season with the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL due to a lack of physical toughness from the NHL. His emergency exit is now Servette.

Perfect for the National League

Before that, Manninen caused a stir in the KHL for four years. First with Jokerit Helsinki, then with Ufa. In 233 games he scored 176 scorer points (54 goals, 122 assists). In Ufa he also played together with Hartikainen. Often in the same offensive line – also in the national team. The master can therefore look forward to a well-established duo.

As a strong running and offensive player, Manninen is perfect for the Swiss National League. Sports director Marc Gautschi says of the prominent newcomer: “We are very happy to have captured Sakari. He is an extremely dynamic player with excellent playing qualities and a very high hockey IQ.
