“We have lost faith in justice”

FC Stade-Nyonnais is angry with the competition.

Stade Nyonnais has almost been promoted to the Challenge League. Everything should be clear on Saturday with a win in Brühl. But instead of a promotion break, there is a boycott. The people of Vaud didn’t even go to St. Gallen. Because they wanted to leave a mark. Because they have not been licensed for the second highest class.

Warujan Simonow, co-chairman of the team from Nyon in eastern Switzerland, is beside himself: “It’s purely arbitrary! We’ve lost faith in justice in football.” What happened? Just like a year ago, the license commission refused the club from the Uefa city the license for the same reason: conflict of interest.

Father-son relationship distorts competition

The principle is: no two Swiss Football League clubs may have the same owner. And that’s where the Challenge League team Stade Lausanne-Ouchy comes in. The club is in fact owned by Vartan Sirmakes, multimillionaire, chairman of the luxury watch brand Franck Muller. And last season he was also involved with Nyon. Formerly as chairman, then when the AG was founded.

“But since then the club has been 100 percent owned by his son Sassoun. And he is totally independent from his father,” explains Simonow. “He owns the company «Cvustos». All this has nothing to do with Vartan. And now they say in the league that this is not possible because of the proximity. This is unbelievable!”

‘We planned the promotion party’

When Simonov finds out that the committee is denying Nyon’s license, he thinks it’s a joke. “For months, guided by the competition, we had set everything in motion meticulously.”

It was therefore decided to set a good example by not showing up in Brühl. “We are sorry for the boys. We planned the Ascension celebration. Now everything is cancelled.”

Stade Nyonnais appeals. But the deadline for the appeal decision is May 28. A day after the last game of the season. The climbing party has already been killed.
