Biel’s H2O storm dried up at the dumbest moment

When EHC Biel played brilliantly in the autumn, it was mainly one line that impressed with its combinations and goals. The one with three strikers from three countries, the Austrian with a Swiss license Fabio Hofer (32), the Seelander Gaëtan Haas (31) and the Swede Jesper Olofsson (31).

Olofsson, who was poached from the SCL Tigers after a 25-goal season, scored 21 goals in qualifying, Hofer 16 and Haas 12. The trio, cheered on by fans «H2O-Sturm» scored 49 goals, 39 of them from five against five.

“It’s just the most beautiful thing there is”: Biel-Captain Haas is excited about the H2O line(01:12)

Only one goal in the last series

In the playoffs, the H2O-storm, however, increasingly drained. In the quarter-final against Bern, he scored 6 goals in 6 games. In the semi-final against the ZSC Lions, there were 3 of 4 games – all in the power play. In the final against Servette (score 2:2), Hofer’s only goal came in the second game.

Olofsson has not scored in a draw since the first game of the playoffs. After all, he scored two important power play goals against ZSC. While Haas and Hofer always provide momentum in the attack, the Swede seems inhibited. He misses the train on target. The 1.78 meter wing lacks punch and dynamics. And his shots have the sharpness that usually characterizes them.

19 different playoff scorers

Olofsson repeatedly failed in the playoffs after opposing sides and then returned to the bench with a pained face, which was interpreted by angry tongues as acting. So you cannot rule out that he is not fully in possession of his powers. In the playoffs, it’s normal for battered players to struggle through. Zug’s captain Jan Kovar, who led EVZ to the title last season with four broken ribs, gave up this year for the World Cup. And ZSC striker Sven Andrighetto had to undergo surgery on his hand after losing to Biel.

That the target production of the H2O storm has dried up Biel has not yet thrown off course. After all, one of the strengths of the team of Antti Törmänen and Oliver David is that all lines can contribute goals. 19 (!) different players have already scored in the play-offs and only four of the field players (Noah Delémont, Riley Sheahan, Beat Forster and Jérémie Bärtschi) are still goalless.

If the Seelanders want to become champions – and they certainly want to – there must also be a contribution from H2Oh storm.
