Are you going on vacation this summer or May? Avoid these 4 very expensive toll roads

Driving is expensive. However, going on holiday in your own car can be a lot cheaper than flying or taking the train. At least if you avoid these four toll roads. They’re expensive to run over.

Whichever of these four roads you take, you will never see daylight. These are all tunnels.

These are the four most expensive tunnels in Europe

For the list of expensive toll roads, we decided to highlight only European roads. After all, a small part of the Dutch will leave our continent with their car.

1. Eurotunnel (most expensive toll road)

The Eurotunnel is the most expensive toll road in Europe. This tunnel is more than 50 kilometers long and connects France with the United Kingdom. The tunnel has been in operation since May 1994.

The Euro Tunnel is expensive for a reason. For the crossing you have to put your car on the train. This saves you fuel costs, but this is not enough to compensate for a single trip of 127 euros.

2. Øresund Bridge (Øresundsbron)

For the second most expensive toll road in Europe, we travel to Denmark or Sweden. The Sontbrug tunnel connects the two countries. The bridge not only crosses water, you also sometimes drive on the artificial island of Peberholm, which was created especially for the bridge.

The total connection is about 16 kilometers long. For a single journey by car you pay online 440.00 Danish kroner (just over 59 euros).

3. Mont Blanc Tunnel

For the third expensive toll road in the list, we’re in the country of toll roads: France. More specifically, the Mont Blanc Tunnel. The 11.6 km long toll road leads through the mountains.

For a single trip you pay 52.30 euros on the Italian side. On the French side you pay 51.50 euros.

4. Frejus Tunnel

The last expensive toll road also connects France and Italy. If you drive from Italy to France, you also pay 52.30 euros here. The French price at the Fréjus tunnel is also the same as at the Mont Blanc tunnel: 51.50 euros.
