The ATP 500 tournament will take place in Barcelona next week. Actually, Rafael Nadal would have liked to be there, but it is still too early on the way back.
The 36-year-old Spaniard announced on his Instagram channel that he would not participate in Barcelona. “Barcelona is a special tournament for me because it is my adopted home,” Nadal said disappointed. However, the twelve-time winner of the tournament in Catalonia explained his withdrawal by saying that he was still not ready and needed to continue preparing for his comeback.
Nadal has been out with a hip flexor injury since his exit in the second round of the Australian Open. The Mallorquin has been sentenced to watch since January 18. During this period he also fell out of the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time in 18 years.
Nadal still has time until his big goal of the season, the French Open in Paris. Shortly after his injury, it was clear that he would do everything he could to be ready for Roland Garros on May 28. (dti)
