FCZ waives appeal against Dzemaili’s suspension

Blerim Dzemaili scolds: In the game in St. Gallen, the FCZ player does not like the decisions of ref Sven Wolfensberger, which he emphasizes in the break interview with Blue.

One day before his 37th birthday, FCZ star Blerim Dzemaili received a match suspension for insulting the referee on the TV microphone.

And it stays that way. After examining the case, the FCZ and Dzemaili waived an appeal against the judgment of the SFL disciplinary tribunal in game operations. The former international must certainly look out for Lucerne on Saturday.

However, the waiver of appeal may not be interpreted in such a way that the FCZ deems the suspension appropriate. Rather, the club wants to settle the matter as quickly as possible and not include a possible suspension against the sports director in the decisive final rounds.

First player suspended for interview

Dzemaili is the first Super League player to be suspended for an interview. He said during the interval in the St. Gallen game: “This referee is ridiculous.” While the wording of the statement focused on the decision, not the person, the League labeled Dzemaili’s outburst as “offensive and insulting” to the referee.

In the past, despite open procedures, Lucerne’s goalkeeper Marius Müller (29) always got away with his interview attacks against the referees and a homophobic statement.

Similarly, there were no repercussions when Sion star Mario Balotelli (32) harassed the league and referees on Instagram with words like “mafia” – because the suspension against the Italian at the time only related to the middle finger shown.
