FC Zürich will have to do without their veteran Blerim Dzemaili in the away game in Lucerne on Saturday. The disciplinary court of the Swiss Football League imposed a suspension on the 36-year-old midfielder. He assesses Dzemaili’s statements in an interview during the interval of the April 2 Super League match between FC St. Gallen and FCZ as “offensive and insulting to the referees”.
Dzemaili was annoyed by the lack of a foul whistle for the equalizer in St. Gallen to make it 1-1. After the halftime signal, he furiously rushed to the dressing room and ripped his jersey from his body. But a few seconds later, the FCZ legend was back on the field: on his way to a TV interview on Blue. And then Dzemaili was still at 180.
“This referee is ridiculous,” he began, “if that isn’t a foul then I don’t know what to do.” He was referring to Randy Schneider’s push against Mirlind Kryeziu, which resulted in Espen’s equalizing goal. Dzemaili not only felt disadvantaged by referee Wolfensberger in this scene: “A very easy foul is always a foul. It’s never a foul against us! We can’t play against the ref every time. I don’t understand how you can’t intervene here .” But the VAR did not call on the spot.
The FCZ player can appeal against the decision within two days. (SDA)
