Martschini is the best EVZ playoff scorer of all time

The third defeat against Servette on Thursday (2:3 aet) puts the EVZ in an uncomfortable position. The champion threatens to be out in the semi-finals on Saturday. No wonder that Lino Martschini’s just broken record is pushed to the background. “I would like to exchange the record for a victory,” says the man from Zug.

He made it 1-0 for the third time in this series. This goal puts Martschini on the throne of EVZ’s all-time top goalscorer in the playoffs. That puts him second to someone who gives him directions in the games: Josh Holden (45). In his ten years as EVZ striker, the assistant coach contributed 65 points (25 goals/40 assists) in the playoffs.

Holden didn’t even know he held the club record until Thursday. The Canadian-Swiss and future Davos coach points out that Martschini now has one more point on the playoff points bill: “That’s great for Lino. It couldn’t hit anyone better than him.” He has already done so much for the club and already played in Zug’s youth team. “Lino is an identification figure. You don’t know that in Canada.” Martschini came to an (intermediate) total of 22 goals and 44 assists in the playoffs.

The 1.67 m striker could even increase this number this season – if EVZ averts the end of the season tomorrow. In game number four, the 2: 3 home defeat in extra time, not everything was bad. “We had enough energy and we know we have the power to turn things around. We just have to distribute them smartly,” says Martschini. What you invested in this game can also pay off on Saturday.
