Tina Robnik will no longer be racing down the giant slalom slopes.

Submitting your resignation is not always easy. Especially if you can’t set the time yourself. Tina Robnik has to experience this now. At the age of 31, the Slovenian giant slalom specialist must be forced by her body to end her career.

“Skiing has always been something special to me, a kind of affection that has brought me a lot of good and happiness in my life, but also a lot of struggle and really hard moments,” she writes on Instagram. «After my last knee injury, my physical situation and my mental attitude has changed a lot. I feel it’s time to say goodbye.”

She is treating the injury she suffered in a training crash in mid-February. The knee was totally dislocated and the tibial plateau was broken in three parts.

Countless injuries

It would be the last setback of her career. And there were quite a few. “I’ve had a lot of injuries since I was 13,” she writes. “I broke eight bones, tore the cruciate ligament twice and dislocated my shoulder several times.”

Thanks to a lot of courage, will and motivation, she always came back. She proved that last fall. At that time, she suffered a fracture in the tibial plateau area and dislocated her shoulder. “Fortunately, surgery is not necessary,” there was a glimmer of hope. And Robnik didn’t let the cast hold her back either and trained diligently with it for her comeback. She gave it at the end of December in Semmering (Austria). She was able to ride a total of six giant slaloms last winter – a 29th place was her best result.

Now, after 69 World Cup races, it’s over. Overall, Robnik was classified in the top 10 ten times – her best result was a 6th place. “It’s hard to stop like this, but on the other hand, I’m excited to start a new chapter in my life,” she says. What this chapter looks like leaves them open. “My love of skiing will always be something special,” she concludes her post. (bir)
