The Winnipeg Jets with Nino Niederreiter have to swallow a sensitive defeat in the battle for participation in the NHL playoffs. They lose in their own stadium 1:3 to the Calgary Flames, the direct competitor for the second wild card place in the Western Conference. Niederreiter comes to 14:32 minutes of ice time, but remains without a goal.
The Winnipeg jets still have the advantage now. Like the Calgary Flames, they have 89 points. However, the Jets have four games left to play and the Flames only three. The Nashville Predators are also in contention for the second wild card spot, still earning the final playoff spot. Roman Josi’s team may only have 86 points, but they can still score five times.
The Jets loss isn’t necessary, as they go into the first break with a 1-0 lead on a power play goal. The Calgary Flames, in strong form, are not deterred and still have their fifth victory in the last six games. (sda)
