The many fans of Amazon’s comedy hit show “LOL: Last One Laughing” had to wait twice as long as usual this time, but almost exactly a year after Season 3, it’s finally here: Today, April 6, 2023, is the fourth “LOL” season on Amazon Prime Video. Two of the six episodes will appear on the streaming platform on three consecutive Thursdays.
Under the watchful eye of moderator and referee Michael Bully Herbig, ten well-known faces from the entertainment industry once again compete for charity prize money by making each other laugh without laughing themselves. There will be a reunion with the stage and TV comedians Max Giermann, Kurt Krömer (both for the third time), Martina Hill and Hazel Brugger (both for the second time), the show’s loyal viewers are already well acquainted with (with Max Giermann is represented for the first time again someone who has already won the non-smiling contest).
But also this time, the majority of the field of participants consists of “LOL” newcomers. And even though there are all kinds of celebrities, you might wonder where you know him or her from. We help you on your way…
These are the 6 new “LOL” contestants
Jan van Weyde is mainly active as a comedian and actor. In addition to mini-appearances in films such as “The Last Bull” and “Not My Day”, his best-known role to date is as Xaver Steindle in the ARD telenovela “Storm of Love”, in which he appeared between 2005 and 2015 (with interruptions ) in almost 800 effects there was. He is also part of the ensemble of the Amazon sketch show “Binge Reloaded” and runs the podcast “Let’s hear it” with Carolin Kebekus’ brother David Kebekus.
Cordula Stratmann originally worked as a family therapist before discovering the comedy and cabaret scene in the 1990s. In addition to successful stage programs, she left a lasting impression with her fictional character Annemie Hülchrath (for example in the WDR show “Room free!”). However, many will probably have pleasant memories of her as the protagonist of the award-winning improv show “Schillerstraße”. To this day, Stratmann regularly appears in series and also (usually in guest roles) in the cinema, more recently in “Rocca changes the world” and “It’s just a phase, rabbit”.
Michael Mittemeier: With critically acclaimed programs such as “Zapped”, “Back To Life” and “Paranoid”, Michael Mittermeier was one of the best known and most successful stand-up comedians in Germany in the 1990s and early 2000s. And even today, the thoroughbred Bavarian, who still regularly appears in the Quatsch Comedy Club, enjoys great popularity.
Elton (whose real name is Alexander Duszat, by the way) is actually not completely unscripted when it comes to “LOL”, as he saw at least briefly as a guest moderator of a balloon roulette in episode 5 of season 3. However, it was his performances as a show intern in Stefan Raab’s cult format “TV total” that made him famous, and he was usually also represented in the associated event shows. He is now a regular part of a guessing team on the quiz show “Who Knows Something?” and currently moderates formats such as “Beat the Star” or the children’s quiz show “1, 2 or 3”.
Joko Winterscheidt: In a duo with Klaas Heufer-Umlauf, Joko Winterscheidt has already moderated a number of successful shows, eventually taking him from MTV to ZDFneo to ProSieben, where the occasional actor now has his own wildly popular format with “Who steals the show from me”. Fun fact: Joko was supposed to be in the second “LOL” season, but was replaced by Olaf Schubert in the short term due to a corona disease.
Moritz Bleibtreu is one of the most famous actors in Germany, who celebrated his big break around the turn of the millennium thanks to memorable roles in “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”, “Run Lola Run” and “The Experiment”. To this day, Bleibtreu is not only very busy in this country (he was last seen in cinemas this year in “Caveman” and “Manta Manta 2”), but also mixes and mingles in several international productions such as “Munich”, “World War Z” and the upcoming Netflix series “Transatlantic” in supporting roles.
