The ten most legendary turns of the playoffs

class=”sc-3778e872-0 cKDKQr”>

1 Final 2022: Zug – ZSC Lions 4:3

The memory is still fresh. The Zurich leads the series 3-0, everything is being prepared for the master derniere in the Hallenstadion. The people at Zug see that too. Carl Klingberg takes a selfie in front of the “ZSC Lions Swiss Champion” ad. The Lions take the lead through Denis Malgin. After the equalizer, however, an own goal by ZSC captain Patrick Geering was the turning point in the game and in the series.

Zug striker Carl Klingberg laughed in 2022 for the advertisement of “Swiss Champion ZSC Lions”.

2 Final 2001: Lugano – ZSC Lions 3:4

Lugano are on the verge of winning the title and are 3-1 ahead in the series. Then ZSC coach Larry Huras brings Joker Morgan Samuelsson. A new impetus comes into play with the Swede. And Samuelsson shoots Zurich in the “Finalissima” in extra time to defend the title. After that, the Ticino chaos caused the “disgrace of Lugano”.

Before the “disgrace of Lugano” 2001: ZSC captain Claudio Micheli chased sharpshooter Morgan Samuelsson.

3 Final 2012: Bern – ZSC Lions 3:4

The SCB leads 3:1 and has three master pucks, pardoning the first for its own support when Mathias Seger scores in overtime and fails in the “Finalissima” 2.5 seconds before McCarthy’s end. Prior to the turnaround, chimney sweep and Kloten fan Ueli Mühlebach handed out “Glücksrappler” in ZSC training. Much to the delight of Lions coach Bob Hartley.

For the turnaround in the 2012 final against Bern: Chimney sweep Ueli Mühlebach hands ZSC coach Bob Hartley a “lucky crook”.

4 Quarter Finals 2006: Lugano – Ambri 4:3

After the second game, Lugano replaced coach Larry Huras with the duo of Harold Kreis and Ivano Zanatta. The third game still goes to Ambri. Then comes the turning point. In the 4th duel in Valascia, Ambri leads four times, but Lugano wins 5:4 and then storms to the last title for the time being.

5 Quarter Finals 2007: Davos – ZSC Lions 4:3

The ZSC Lions lead against the qualifying winner in the series 3:1. But then star keeper Ari Sulander is injured and has to be replaced by 20-year-old Reto Berra. HCD turns the tide and takes the title.

20-year-old Reto Berra (pictured against Marc Wieser) had to score against Davos in 2007 when Ari Sulander was injured.

6 Quarter Finals 2013: Bern – Napkin 4:3

SCB trailed Servette 1:3 in the quarter-finals, but then won three straight – led by Byron Ritchie, who decided Game 5 in overtime and forced extra time in Game 6 (3:2 nP) with two goals. After that, Antti Törmänen’s team will not be stopped on their way to the title.

7 Quarterfinals 2007: Zug – Rapperswil-Jona 4:3

Rappi already leads 3-0 against Zug in the quarter-finals. But the EVZ wins the fourth game in a penalty shoot-out. The match winner is Paolo Duca, who comes back from suspension to score twice in the match and then in the penalty shoot-out. Legendary are the four pieces of wood that President Roland Stärkle takes to the team meal out of turn and Coach Sean Simpson puts under the bench.

After the switch from 0:3 to 4:3 against Rappi, Zug’s Lars Weibel and Paolo Duca 2007Clau show the logs that coach Sean Simpson has put under the bench.

8 Quarter Finals 2008: Zug – Davos 3:4

Six times only one goal difference decides, four times the decision only falls in extra time. The EVZ has the lead in the first three games. In games 5 and 6, HCD clipper Michel Riesen is the overtime winner. The defending champion then wins the Belle in Zug 4:0.

The HCD players celebrate Michel Riesen’s 2008 overtime goal in their sixth quarter-final against Zug.

9 Quarterfinals 2022: SCRJ Lakers – Davos 3:4

HCD coach Christian Wohlwend criticized his goalkeeper Sandro Aeschlimann after the third defeat. He responds with a shutout. The record champion no longer loses matches. Groundbreaking: In Game 5, Davos made up for a 2-0 deficit in the final phase and won in the second overtime thanks to a goal from substitute foreigner Kristian Pospisil.

HCD striker Kristian Pospisil celebrates his goal in 2nd extra time at Rapperswil-Jona in 2022.

10 Semifinal 2004: Lugano – ZSC Lions 4:3

In the semi-finals, defending champion and winner of the qualification Lugano is 3-1 behind against ZSC and can only prevent Ville Peltonen from equalizing 79 seconds before the end in the sixth game.
