Second in the ranking FC Wil seems to be running out of breath in the Challenge League in the battle for promotion. The East Swiss lost 1:4 in Schaffhausen and remained without a win for the fifth game in a row. After losing points, they are now behind Lausanne-Sport, the Vaud will receive leader Yverdon on Sunday. The first two teams are promoted directly, the third-placed negating a barrage against the bottom of the Super League.
FC Schaffhausen, who previously lost three times in a row with a goal difference of 1:9, laid the foundation for victory with a double strike in the first half. Javi Navarro put the hosts ahead for a second time in the 35th minute, three minutes later Serge Müller increased the lead to 3-1 with a penalty kick.
Meanwhile, FC Thun in strong form beat Bellinzona 2-0 at home and are now unbeaten in eight league matches (six wins). The goals for the Bernese Oberland came from Valmir Matoshi (28′) and Roland Ndongo (82′).
While Thun narrowed the gap to Wil to four points, Bellinzona is still waiting for his first Challenge League victory since October 30.
