It was not until the following day that Munich officials announced the divorce. The German record champions received a lot of criticism for this. Hasan Salihamidzic (46) now defends the approach.
As the sports director of Bayern explained on Sunday in the football talk show “Doppelpass”, at the time of the announcement there was no final agreement with the new Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel (49). “Thursday night, when we were pretty clear with Thomas, we had to find out that it had somehow been leaked by a third person, so there was really nothing we could do about it,” Salihamidzic assures.
It is unknown who posted the message. But Salihamidzic suspects it must have been someone from the Tuchel camp. “It was definitely someone from the other side. I don’t know, but I can only speak for us: we behaved very honestly – as honestly as can be in this industry.”
Accordingly, Bayern had only waited for Tuchel’s commitment. “The first person we called was Julian Nagelsmann on this Thursday evening. Then I told him we would meet the next day at Säbener Strasse, and we did.”
Bild chief reporter Tobias Altschäffl was also in the “double pass” round. This contradicted Salihamidzic’s version. “We received a call at 8:50 pm on Thursday evening that was not from Pini Zahavi or the Zahavi side, I can say that,” Altschäffl explains. Zahavi is Tuchel’s advisor. “Seven minutes later we let Nagelsmann know that we had heard that. At first they were surprised and couldn’t believe it.”
Salihamidzic regrets that Nagelsmann had to find out about the divorce in this way. “Of course it is bad that it comes out before then. But we cannot blame ourselves. We have followed this process as it should be.”
Nagelsmann’s release was therefore probably related to the poor performance since the winter break, but also to the commitment of Tuchel. “It can also happen that Thomas does not want to start until July 1 or not at all, so we had to wait for confirmation.
