When Credit Suisse did even better, it was able to swallow up competitors in the financial market. For example in September 2020: there was a boom in the banking center of Aargau when Credit Suisse (CS) merged with Neue Aargauer Bank (NAB). The latter then disappeared from the scene – and at the same time from the chest of FC Aarau.
In the first competitive game of the 2020/21 season, the NAB logo was still on the Aarauer chest – and brought good luck: FCA beat FC Wil in a penalty shoot-out. A week later there was the same game at the start of the Challenge League – with two differences: the East Swiss then left the field as the winner. And instead of NAB, the FCA professionals suddenly advertised CS.
In the week between the two Wil games, the acquisition of NAB by CS was completed. The materials manager and the washing staff in Brügglifeld had to reprint the jerseys in no time: NAB logo gone, CS logo on. The fact that during the first game with CS sponsorship, one or the other letter was still a bit loosely stuck on the shirt – for free!
Much more important from the point of view of FCA: Credit Suisse not only took over the sponsorship contract between the Brügglifeld club and NAB, but also extended it until the summer of 2024. As a premium partner, CS FC Aarau paid around CHF 200,000 per season – a lot of money for a Challenge League club.
Two and a half years later, Credit Suisse is now being swallowed up itself. The curse of the Aarau jersey!
Will the UBS logo be featured on the chest of the FCA pros at the next league game? Hardly likely. The disappearance of the CS brand will probably drag on. How long is unclear. As a precaution, the FCA has already submitted a request to CS how to print the flyers for an upcoming junior tournament.
Crucial for FCA: The 200,000 francs to which he is entitled next season under the contract with CS have been secured.
Whether a new main sponsor is needed then depends on whether the financial center of Aargau is important to UBS. If so, the UBS logo could be applied to the FCA chest in years to come. And if UBS wants to be present on the shirt before the summer of 2024: in Brügglifeld they know how to reprint the shirt within a few hours…
