NHL goalie Elvis Merzlikins is leaving the Columbus Blue Jackets – at least temporarily. As the team announced on Friday, the 28-year-old will be traveling to Latvia. The reason for his departure is an illness in his family environment.
According to various media, the ex-goalkeeper of Lugano is worried about his grandmother. She would be seriously ill.
Merzlikins played for Lugano in Switzerland for six years before leaving for the NHL. He is in his fourth season with the Blue Jackets.
The Blue Jackets bring Daniil Tarasov (23) into the selection as a replacement. The Russian also plays in the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters. (SME)
