Ski jumping talent Imhof on the rise

class=”sc-97fd9fa8-0 jNFKxv”>

Remo Imhof is about to make his World Cup debut.

Remo Imhof had flown under the radar of the ski jumping scene for a long time. The 19-year-old from Schwyz, who has only been used in the second leg of the Continental Cup (COC), has not yet started a World Cup. But that is now changing after his performance explosion in the past month.

Imhof is part of a Swiss quartet in Oslo this weekend that will attack again in the final part of what has been an unsuccessful season so far. According to trainer Ronny Hornschuh, Gregor Deschwand and Killian Peier will be in Norway together with Imhof and the recovered Simon Ammann.

His emergence

Until the end of January Imhof is not even among the best of the COC. Then comes his hour – or rather, his month. First he buys the ticket for the Elite World Championships at the Junior World Championships with an eighth place. Then he promptly jumped to second place in the COC in Klingenthal. And gets people to sit up and take notice in Planica as he triumphs in internal qualifying – and then also qualifies for the World Championships on small and large hills (ranked 41 and 44). In the spotlight in a few weeks. “A huge thing,” he thinks. Ammann says about him: “Having this experience at such a young age is a great advantage. I see Remo’s development very positively, he is doing well.”

His coolness

Despite the hype at the World Cup, the youngster, who has never jumped in front of such an audience before, is surprisingly calm. “Of course I could get used to this atmosphere,” he says with a laugh. Print? Rejects the teen with the red, wavy curls: “I just have to prove something to myself – that makes it all much easier.” He sees himself “as a student” who just wants to absorb everything around him. Teammate Deschwanden thinks: “Remo is an asset to the team. The fact that a good youngster is new gives us fresh drive.”

his passions

Like Ammann or Deschwanden, Imhof, who discovered his passion for ski jumping by watching TV with his grandmother, loves flying above all else. You can find him on Instagram under the name “skijumping_guru”. During the Carnival, if time permits, the drummer will be on the road as a Muotathal drummer. Darts also fascinates him.

But nothing comes close to ski jumping. And now he can show what he’s got again during his World Cup premiere in Oslo.
