The French Football Federation (FFF) decided on Thursday morning to end the collaboration with coach Corinne Diacre.
It’s a split with an announcement. Star player and captain Wendie Renard (32) announced last week that she would no longer play for France, unless the association makes the necessary changes. Two teammates followed her. All a few months before the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Now the French federation has reacted and announces the immediate separation from Diacre shortly after Thursday afternoon. There is talk of an “unrepairable rift” between the players and the coach.
The fired coach has defended himself against the allegations to the end. She spoke of her lawyer in the AFP about a “hate campaign” that was astonishing in its “violence and dishonesty”. The quarrels between Diacre, who is considered a discipline fanatic, and her players probably go back to the European Championship final of a year ago.
In its statement, the association said the change of coach is part of the new focus on promoting women’s football and that they have big goals for the upcoming World Cup finals and the 2024 Olympics.
After the long-standing head of the association Noël Le Graët (81) recently resigned due to allegations of sexual harassment, one can hope at the FFF that this will be the last bang for the time being. (dti)
