UEFA reacts to the events surrounding last year’s CL final. Spectators who were refused entry must be compensated.
As the European Union announced, it will refund Liverpool fans the last tickets. This is UEFA’s response to an independent investigative report published in February, which sharply criticized it for the incidents around the Stade de France, which mainly affected fans of the “Reds”, and held primary responsibility for the organizational errors.
The refund concerns 19,618 tickets. In individual cases, Real Madrid supporters and other spectators affected by the chaos also have the option of seeking compensation from UEFA.
Numerous Liverpool fans were denied entry before the final between eventual winners Real Madrid and Liverpool on 28 May 2022. They had to wait for hours, many did not come to the stadium despite regular tickets. The police used tear gas, more than 230 people were injured. (SDA/dti)
