SCL Tigers want to drag SCB into misery

It’s a bitter Tuesday night for everyone with a heart for the SCL Tigers. Davo’s competitor controlled Ambri for 55 minutes, leading 2-1 and then Filip Chlapik turned the game around with a spectacular double strike. With the 3-2 win, Ambri secured its place in the league and sent the SCL Tigers into the play-out series against Ajoie.

“Of course I was disappointed at the time. Our big goal was the pre-play-offs, which we didn’t make it either, or to stay early in the competition,” sports director Pascal Müller (43) said the day after. But then he immediately says: “That was on Tuesday. Now it’s Wednesday, it’s time to get up again and adjust the crown.”

Bad news after bad news

There’s a lot the SCL Tigers have had to digest since the national hiatus. First Vili Saarijärvi was injured, then Marc Michaelis had a thrombosis drama, then Aleksi Saarela was out and his intended replacement, Haralds Egle, reported sick. Last week’s most important matches against Ajoie (0:1) and Kloten (1:3) were promptly lost, sometimes because scoring goals was no longer possible. The fact that Ambri then turns the game around in Extremis in Davos and robs Langnau of his last chance fits the picture.

“Of course we had injuries at the stupidest possible time. But feeling sorry for ourselves and whining about it would be the worst thing we can do right now. Now it is even more important to get back together and tackle what needs to be done,” Müller demands.

Play with the best possible team

The derby against Bern will be tackled first on Thursday evening (from 7.25 pm), which can be seen live on Blick TV. In this table, the Tigers don’t care about anything anymore, but for the SCB, it’s everything. However, the Emmentaler does not give their cantonal rivals the pleasure of taking it easy and, for example, saving some key players for the play-out series against Ajoie. “We will play with the best possible team,” Müller promises.

“This is a home game and our stadium will be full. We owe it to ourselves as an organization, to our fans and sponsors, but also to the league and the product of Swiss ice hockey that we give everything there,” Müller clarifies. even thinks: “This derby fits perfectly in our situation. We can show our pride.”

A derby win would send the SCL Tigers SCB, who are battling for the pre-playoffs, into misery. And such a prestigious success would of course also be a morale boost at the ideal time before the tough series against Ajoie on March 14th. Müller does not want to talk about that at the moment: “Our focus is completely on the match against SCB.”
