PSG boss charged with deprivation of liberty and torture

There are serious allegations against Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Serious allegations against Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, were brought before the court in Paris. The Qatari is said to have imprisoned and tortured a French-Algerian lobbyist in his home country.

As the French sports newspaper “L’Équipe” writes, three investigating judges were called in on Monday to hear the case. Tayeb Benabderrahmane, as the lobbyist is called, complains that he was detained and tortured for six months from January 2020 in the host country of the last World Cup.

Al-Khelaifi’s secret TV pact?

After a subsequent house arrest, he was allowed to leave the country in November 2020, but only if he signed a non-disclosure agreement. In it, he must commit not to publish “sensitive documents” about the PSG boss.

This was information that Bendabderrahmane had on his mobile phone about Al-Khelaifi. The newspaper suspects that it is either details about the awarding of the World Cup to Qatar or a TV rights pact for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups that Al-Khelaifi (owner of beIN Media) signed with former FIFA secretary-general Jérôme Valcke (62) would have falsified – behind the back of the football association.

Al-Khelaifi defends against “lies”

The lobbyist’s lawyers are happy that “the true nature of this story is finally being investigated by the French judiciary”. But the PSG sheikh wants nothing to do with that. “This is the ultimate media manipulation,” the 49-year-old said in a statement.

“You’re talking about professional criminals. They have changed lawyers more times than their stories and lies,” the statement continues. He finds it funny how many people find “the lies and contradictions” believable. “Justice will take its course.” (che)
