It’s rumbling in the Super League

Referee Sandro Schärer looks at a game scene on the screen – the VAR is currently causing heated discussions.

When the referee draws a square in the air, the fans shudder and suspect evil. The blood freezes in the veins of the players and officials. That reports the VAR. In Germany he is symbolically in the basement.

Introduced once to correct obvious wrong decisions and supposedly ensure more justice, the VAR is now a surgical research institute with unprecedented potential to fall. A playground for technology nerds and computer geeks who get into mischief under the guise of honesty.

When it comes to handball, everyone has long since lost track. The defenders prowl the penalty area like beaten dogs with their arms crossed behind their backs. But otherwise, every wobble of the shoelace is analyzed under the magnifying glass and in super slow motion. It rewinds after a goal until one of the detectives discovers an indisposition somewhere in the basement. The referee is called to the screen and relegated to jumping jacks.

And if a player in contact football accidentally steps on someone else’s foot, everyone shouts “open soles” and the referee draws a red card. Closed soles must be invented quickly.

Never before has there been so much discussion about referee decisions. Players and coaches have never felt so unfairly treated. The VAR was introduced to correct obvious wrong decisions. Now he should exercise his office one last time and set himself up as an authority! And put an end to that VAR feeling. Of course it won’t happen. You can’t lose the multi-million dollar prestige project.

YB, FCB, Lucerne, GC – it rumbles across the board

The VAR discussions obscure the fact that our club football is booming almost everywhere. YB dominates the competition, but is a nonvaleur in Europe. FCB is desperate for money and stability. But gives a strong response to the symptoms of the crisis against the Turkish champions Trabzonspor. The Chinese want to sell GC. Napkin is a mystery. Madness rages in Lucerne. Perhaps the club will soon be without a permit and without a stadium. And the FCZ is only now waking up from the hangover after the championship madness.

And a pity that Christian Constantin threatens to withdraw. He is often desired in the pepper country. Meanwhile, he is soon the only spot of color. It’s almost wistful to think you can’t be more annoyed by CC.

Now the competition is heightened. You want to make them more attractive and competitive. A fresh cell cure. The brave Wiler and the quiet Yverdon will probably rise immediately. Perhaps Stade Lausanne-Ouchy will also come along.

There is no unqualified joy given the appeal and rise of these clubs.

But perhaps the VAR intervenes here.
