Kjeld Nuis has withdrawn from the remainder of the qualifying tournament for the World Championships in Thialf due to a groin injury. Kai Verbij suffered a groin injury in the 500 meters. It is not yet clear how serious his injury is.
Nuis did not take part in the 500 meters on Friday due to his injury. The Olympic 1,500m champion would compete on Saturday (1,500m) and Sunday (1,000m) but announced via social media that a cross was in progress there.
For Verbij, the 500 meters were already over after a few meters. The reigning Dutch champions at this distance touched the groin. “It shot in,” Verbij said after his ride. He no longer drives the second 500 meters. He did not want to say whether there will be a line through the 1,000 meters on Sunday.

The five fastest skaters qualify for the first four World Cup competitions this season. After the first 500 meters, Janno Botman is in first place ahead of Hein Otterspeer. The distance will be run again later in the evening. The fastest time of both laps counts.
