Next personnel change at Ajax Amsterdam. A few days ago, trainer John van’t Schip (60) announced that he would no longer be available for the position next season. Now the Dutch record champions also have to look for a new club boss.
As Ajax announced on Tuesday morning, CEO Alex Kroes (49) will be suspended with immediate effect. The reason: he is accused of insider trading. As stated on the club’s website, this decision was taken “after the supervisory board learned that Kroes had purchased more than 17,000 Ajax shares a week before the announcement of his intended appointment on August 2, 2023.”
External legal advice obtained later showed that Kroes was probably guilty of insider trading. This is a criminal offense. “We are deeply shocked that this has happened at Ajax, because it is very damaging to the club and everyone who loves it,” says chairman of the supervisory board Michael van Praag. “Alex Kroes’ behavior is not in line with what Ajax stands for.”
Kroes’ final departure will be decided during an extraordinary general meeting. Until a successor is determined, other board members will take over Kroes’ duties. (beer)
