What is the haunted house of Safenwil AG all about? The old cottage was built in 1911 and has been decaying for decades. According to a passerby, it has been uninhabited for at least over 35 years! You can hardly see it from the street anymore, it has grown so much.

Sometimes greenery also flies into neighboring gardens. And: There is a risk of bricks flying into the street in strong winds. This situation has had residents shaking their heads for years.

So who owns the magnificent 4,000 square meter house? And most importantly: Why wasn’t the garage, chicken coop and laundry room demolished a long time ago? One thing is certain: it is not a listed building.

Last time Italians lived

Blick’s research shows: The house belongs to a woman from Aargau. However, when asked, she does not want to say anything about it.

An Italian woman and her husband recently lived in the house. They were the last residents, and that was “40 years ago,” according to one resident. Since then the house has been empty and decaying. It is said that until a few years ago there was only a storage room here.

Major accident risk

People regularly break into the house and break in illegally, even though the homeowner is said to have repeatedly barricaded and locked it.

The people behind the “switzerlands_lost_places” Instagram profile have pictures of the home’s interiors and are sharing them for publication. Pictures show: Things look unstable at home. Everyone who enters there does so at the risk of their lives.

“Why wasn’t the house demolished? “This is an eyesore for Safenwil!” says a passerby angrily. “You don’t need to build an apartment building in the country immediately after the demolition. You can also build a nice park here.” This will also be welcomed by neighbors who “prefer not to say anything” about the house or area.

What does the mayor of Safenwil say about the house in question? His answer: “No comment.” It looks like the haunted house will continue to deteriorate in the future.
